Posted on Wednesday, February 12th, 2020 by The Call of the Wild looks like a perfectly nice movie. Harrison Ford grew a beard and signed up to make a family film, which is surprising, since he seems like hed rather…not do that sort of thing. But here he is, starring in  Call of the Wild as John Thornton, who sets off on an adventure with a big dog named Buck. Buck is the  real star of this movie, and hes also completely digitally animated, which is just a little weird. Watch a new  Call of the Wild clip below, where Harrison Ford meets Buck for the first time. The Call of the Wild Clip In the grand scheme of things, its probably best to make a movie like  The Call of the Wild with a digital dog. For one thing, since the dog is pretty much the main character, making him animated allows the filmmakers to better control him. Theres no need to hire animal trainers and several different dogs just to get things done. And then theres the added factor of safety: having a digital dog ensures that a real animal (or animals) wont end up exploited, or injured, or abused (even by accident. All that said, the digital dog here looks  really god damn weird. No offense to the animators, who Im sure put in countless hours to make this happen. The copy for this clip even talks up the use of “cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic – and emotionally authentic – characters. ” Its just hard to watch this and not have an uncanny valley situation kick in, where youre constantly thinking: “Thats not a real dog. ” But hey, this is a movie aimed at youngsters, and perhaps they wont give a hoot about any of that. The Call of the Wild focuses on “Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. As the newest rookie on a mail delivery dog sled team–and later its leader–Buck experiences the adventure of a lifetime, ultimately finding his true place in the world and becoming his own master. ” In addition to Harrison Ford and Buck the cartoon dog,  The Call of the Wild features  Dan Stevens, Omar Sy, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford, and Colin Woodell. The brutality and violence against animals made this a difficult read. The description of landscape is perfect prose. Did I like this book? Not really, no! Do I regret reading it? No, this is one of those books that you simply cannot not read! So why didn't I like this book? Honestly, I can't put my finger on it. Normally I should've loved this book. I love doggos. I love classics. And I enjoy these types of books. But for some mysterious reason The Call of the Wild did not work for me. Buck was a great doggo and I loved the way Jack London wrote from a dog's POV without making it too far-fetched. I mean Buck was a... If my dog could read, he would never shut up about how great this book is. "The Call of the Wild" is the story of Buck, a beautiful and powerful dog who was stolen from his comfy home in California and forced to become a sled dog in Alaska. Tajný agent přeměněný v holuba může být příjemným ne-vánočním rozptýlením. Se svými ratolestmi se můžete vydat na pohádku nabitou akcí, kde se potkávají dva zcela odlišní hrdinové. Walter je vynálezce pro tajnou službu, outsider, který si naposledy vyslechl uznání od své mámy. Jeho přístup k vývoji zbraní je ale poněkud pacifistický: chce, aby jeho vynálezy dokázaly zneškodnit protivníka nějakým jemným způsobem. Třeba odvedením jeho pozornosti neodolatelnou kombinací třpytek a koťátek. S tímto přístupem se ale v laboratoři nesetkává s velkým pochopením. Ostatní ho považují za podivína, takže jediný, kdo mu dělá dobrovolně společnost, je jeho ochočený holub. A shodou náhod se právě kvůli tomuto domácímu mazlíčkovi a Walterově novému vynálezu promění úspěšný superagent Lance Sterling v superholuba. Nadšený z toho rozhodně není, ale protože byl zrovna křivě obviněn ze spiknutí a pronásleduje ho celá jeho jednotka, krytí v podobě jiného živočišného druhu nakonec přijde celkem vhod. Navíc protilátku Walter ještě nevynalezl… Tito dva protikladní hrdinové se musí spojit proti pomstychtivému padouchovi, který ohrožuje všechny členy tajné služby, a očistit Sterlingovo jméno. I když je teď agent malý a opeřený, na velikost jeho ega to rozhodně vliv nemá, takže se stále sebevědomě pouští do akcí, které jsou pro holuba nezvládnutelné. Divákům to nabízí spoustu zábavné podívané, zvláště když se připojí i další holubi, kteří splňují představu přihlouplého ptáka, který sezobne kdejakou nechutnost jako největší lahůdku. Vzhledem k velkému počtu postav a celkem svižné akci není pohádka vhodná pro ty nejmenší. Postavy by nám mohly někoho připomínat: asi diváky nepřekvapí, že byly v originále namluveny Willem Smithem a Tomem Hollandem, protože jejich vzhled a grimasy tomu odpovídají. Scénář se radši soustředí na zábavu pro děti, nenápadných či sarkastických vtípků pro dospělé je tu jen pár. Vzhledem k velkému počtu postav a celkem svižné akci není pohádka vhodná pro ty nejmenší. Co se na první pohled zdá jako typický film o špionech, je zároveň bojem proti násilí a zbrojení. Poselství je to sice milé, ale přesto je tu spousta moderních zabijáckých hraček. K tomu se podíváme do Japonska, Mexika, Benátek, na jachtu i do ponorky, a vše spěje až k závěrečné přestřelce se stovkami útočných dronů. Špióni v převleku se hodí pro trochu starší děti, protože film je dost napěchovaný akcí a malým divákům orientaci moc neusnadňuje, navíc možná nechcete vysvětlovat svým ratolestem, co je to kloaka. Nechybí poselství (o míru či týmové práci) a vtipné scény, jak jinak než díky holubům. Při jednom zhlédnutí nás celkem snadno zabaví, ale mezi nezapomenutelné pohádky se nezapíše. Naše a holubí DNA jsou si velmi podobné. Tohle je nový tým agenta Sterlinga. Holubi umí sice létat, ale ne řídit takové auto. Spies in disguise is about a secret agent who is the best in his field. But is framed for stealing a weapon that can expose all the secret agents. So he must have the help of the tech inventor who doesn't want to harm anyone in order to save the identities of all the agents and save the world. Spies in disguise was a lot of fun and got slowly better. But did suffer from some narrative and screenplay flaws. Lets talk about this more in detail.
First of all the films animation and action sequences were great. The film like a large majority of these kinds of movies this year had fantastic animation that was very pleasing to the eye. With Walters tech creations being very inventive and visually pleasing. And the action sequences were surprisingly entertaining and inventive. When Lance ( Will Smith) did what he did best especially in the beginning it was entertaining. With hard hitting action scenes and inventive ways of defeating the bad guys it kept you consistently entertained as well as other aspects.
Next they did some interesting things with the plot and it was surprisingly very funny.
I thought that the whole dynamic of Lance changing from a human to a pidgeon was very interesting. And i had a lot of fun with the different situations they put him in as a bird as he learned how much he needed Walter and he could be a spy much easier. So i thought this was a really fun and creative plot choice from the screenwriters and director. Because of this dynamic the film was very funny. The film went all out with his humour with jokes coming at you all the time, and for the most part they landed. With Lance finding out the functions of a pidgeon being hilarious, and Walter and his gadgets were infectiously funny as well.
However i do just have to say that not all the humour landed consistently throughout the film. The humour did fall flat sometimes which left it awkward to watch in a few instances mostly involving Lance and Walter. But then they instantly made you laugh again, so the comedic tone was not consistent and it was fairly jarring and clunky in scenes when there was humour that landed and humour that didn't.
Next the film had great themes and likeable characters. The film had a great message about being weird and different being a good thing which was executed in a heartwarming way. Has there been films with similar messages yes, but spies in disguise still made it seem fresh and is a great message for todays society. Also all the characters were very likeable. Lance had this cool arrogance to him that made him very entertaining to watch, and he as his friendship with Walter became better so did he. And Walter was an extremely likeable character. Having him not having many friends really made you warm to his character. As his wacky inventions were a joy to watch. Also his view on how to deal with situations involving violence was interesting.
However my final two negatives that bought the film down slightly was its under-usage of Lance in human form and how generic it was. I liked Lances character and his action sequences so much. That i would of personally preferred if he stayed as a human more in the first act to get more action scenes and how he works on the job. But i understood why they didn't, but i would of set out the first act slightly differently. And the film did have a generic formula despite doing different things with the visuals and characters. It was still the whole main character being framed, having to save himself and learn to be a better person. We have seen it all before this was just done in a slightly slicker package then others.
My final two positives would be the great villain and the entertaining final act. The villain was delightfully evil. And they did a great job at making him really dislikable with his killing and actions towards likeable characters was great. And his accent and half burned face just made him look really cool. And the final act was great, When it was revealed the true goal of the villain and all the characters came together you couldn't help but feel excited about what was to come. And they didn't disappoint, with surprisingly dark moments as well as Lance embracing Walters ideas they ended the film on a high.
Overall spies in disguise offers a funny,well animated and excellently voice acted piece of entertainment that doesn't offer anything new to the genre but still is a lot of fun.

Normally, I tolerate animated movies nowadays, and come to think of it, I couldn't get enough on Spies In Disguise. This is a really great animated spy movie. The writters knew what thet were doing with the humor and some of the parts of this film. Yes, the pigeon idea was a little lacking, but it is okay on a technical level. Unlike Cars 2, Spies in Disguise has both an interesting story and a strong moral for not only kids but for all audiences too. The characters are pretty likable and the action scenes are good. Compare to Cars 2, this movie has strong and clever humor that tells us that we all can do any clever forms of comedy. Spies in Disguise is without a doubt, one of the best animated movies of 2019 and I give this one an 8.9/10.

Zejména, pokud jej dostane do parády geniální vynálezce, který je schopen pěkných úletů. A to někdy doslova. Premiéra: 26. 12. 2019 Bylo by téměř nemožné najít dva tak odlišné hrdiny, jako jsou legendární superšpión Lance Sterling a geniální vynálezce Walter Beckett. Agent Lance kultivovaný, elegantní, nonšalantní, prostě naprosto dokonalý za všech okolností. Zatímco Walter … není. Ten je prostě jen geniální. Náročnou universitu vystudoval už v patnácti letech a teď zrovna pracuje na tajných výzkumných projektech pro ještě tajnější vládní službu. To, že se tito dva dají někdy dohromady jako parťáci v akci, by si nedokázal asi představit ani ten největší padouch. Jenže na to dojde právě teď, kdy je potřeba zachránit svět před jedním takovým, před Kellerem Killianem, zlosynem číslo 1. Walter je totiž vynálezcem biodynamického maskování, které špiónům umožní dokonalý převlek. Či spíše převtělení. A tak se díky tomuto vynálezu Lance promění v statečného, divokého, majestátního a dokonale nenápadného tvora …. v holuba. Geniální. Holubi jsou všude, nikdo si jich moc nevšímá a umí létat. Od té chvíle Walter a Lance musí pracovat jako dokonale sehraný tým, jinak se celý svět ocitne ve smrtelném nebezpečí. Filmmaker Alla Kovgan assembles the last generation of Cunningham dancers (led by Merce Cunningham Dance Company assistant director of choreography Jennifer Goggans) to present landmark works from the Cunningham repertoire. The film concentrates on the three decades from 1942 to 1972 when Cunningham was making his reputation. Gorgeously shot in 3D, Cunningham brings us closer to these works than any audience has ever been before. Taking an inventive approach with locations, the film places dancers in evocative backdrops such as a tunnel, a high-rise rooftop, and a forest. These current-day performances are interlaced with archival footage of Cunningham speaking and moving. We also hear illuminating interviews with Cage, Rauschenberg, and members of the original Merce Cunningham Dance Company, who endured years of rejection and outrage before they slowly won over audiences. • Great to see a film about dancing! A relatively unexplored sub-genre of documentary, and Cunningham was welcome for this alone. It adds to a hole that I suppose Wenders' Pina opened.

 

• On that note, this film should not have been shot in 3d, which added nothing but nausia. We expect the 3d was entirely for the purpose of (a) copying Pina and, relatedly, b) getting funding. But Cunningham's dances are far less spectacular and their presentation here likewise. The 3d only distracts from the movement in all but one Warhol-involved set, especially when edited with 2d archival.

 

• First half entertaining, second boring. The film progresses at a monotonous pace: one thing happens and then another and then another. No real conflict or tension.

Which is a problem. Because there evidently was plenty of this, but only in reality. The movie, on the other hand, brushes past unconvincingly. No one in the film is given space apart from Cunningham - everyone else speaks to convince the audience how great he is. I wanted to hear from one of his female dancers honestly, in long form, of the darkness of Cunningham. This would help to flesh out his character, give us something to chew on, and organise the film into a narrative. As is, we grew progressively distrusting and disengaged with the Greatest Hits/ Victory Lap tone, before the film ends suddenly with the news that all his dancers left.

• Ultimately we were left unconvinced that Cunningham (the dancer) was all that interesting. Fashionable certainly, he's attached to the right people, and I'm sure it would be great to be dancing as him, but the just-over-half-full prime-time-at-the-festival cinema was an endless circuit of yawns.

 

• Nevertheless we feel cultured now.

Script: As i pointed out, there's a lack of a coherent/satisfying ending to the film. I mean, if you missed the final 5 minutes, you'd have missed nothing at all. The thing is, you can almost tell that this would be the case. Far too many movies these days fail to translate a great idea into a decent all round film. They forget that the way you leave audiences is how they tend to remember the film. In 2019, if a viewer invests 2 hours into your artsy experiment, you better have a climax of some sorts. Lazy filmmaking ends up ruining an otherwise memorable albeit eerie movie.

Judicial Watch said Thursday it had filed Freedom of Information Act lawsuits against the agency and the department for the communications of Eric Ciaramella. The watchdog filed FOIA requests in November to the Justice Department seeking communications between Ciaramella and former FBI agent Peter Strzok, former FBI attorney Lisa Page, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and special counsel Robert Muellers office. It also filed a request with the CIA for Ciaramellas emails between June 1, 2016, and Nov. 12, 2019. Attorneys for the whistleblower, whose complaint prompted the impeachment investigation into President Trump, have neither confirmed nor denied whether Ciaramella is their client. The whistleblower continues to work on issues relating to Russia and Ukraine and is driven to work by armed security officers when threats against him increase, according to the Washington Post. Ciaramella, 33, was Ukraine director on the National Security Council at the end of the Obama administration and was the acting senior director for European and Russian affairs in the early months of the Trump administration. He is now a deputy national intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia on the National Intelligence Council. He worked closely with Vice President Joe Biden and attended a State Department banquet at Bidens invitation in 2016. Ciaramella was also cited in Muellers report in connection to a meeting between Trump and Russian officials in the Oval Office in May 2017, the day after James Comey was fired as FBI director. Hi all, I'm the team leader for the Corridor Crunch project. Many have asked me to write a post-mortem summary for the project. Hope you enjoy. Introduction For the uninitiated, Corridor Crunch was an open-source project with the goal of providing crowdsourced puzzle piece transcription data to the public using the full force of the Bungie community. Users could visit our website and transcribe an endless number of screenshots submitted by the community. Transcription accuracy was determined by comparing transcriptions of the same image to each other and looking for matching data. Statistics Our image database contained a total 26, 336 image URLs. We collected a total of 50, 885 transcriptions in 37 hours. Our confidence calculations identified 1, 453 correct puzzle piece transcriptions (1, 096 unique. 0 confirmed errors in our database of verified transcriptions. More than 5, 000 people submitted transcriptions to Corridor Crunch. Average number of transcriptions per person was 10. 154. The person with the most transcriptions transcribed 184 images. A bug in our front end API caused transcription verification to take much longer than expected. The API was returning an incorrect hash to the database which was being used to identify matches. Oops! The full story The rest of this post is me telling my personal experience working on this puzzle. All dates/times are PST. How this all got started First of all, I am not even close to being a programmer. I took one semester of Java (just for fun) during my freshman year of college, but my professional field is actually in music. Apologies in advance if I have a hard time properly explaining the technical details. In the beginning I guess I was just the "ideas guy" lol. But in all seriousness, I couldn't have even gotten started on my own. I had the idea to crowdsource the transcription process early Wednesday morning after it became quite clear that the Bungie's challenge to the community was to arrange all X number of puzzle pieces into a gargantuan map. After an unsuccessful attempt to recruit developers on Reddit, I messaged one of my closest friends, u/mkava, about the new community puzzle and presented my concept for a crowdsourced transcription website. We immediately got to work on planning out the basic features and data models. I started assembling a massive list of image URLs from images uploaded to various Discord servers, Google forms, etc. The two of us worked all night and by 5am PST we had a working prototype and a list of around 2, 500 image URLs to start with. I thanked mkava for his hard work and he went to bed exhausted. The search for developers Alone with a working prototype in hand and no idea what to do with it, I started asking for help on a few different Discord servers. I received a reply from /u/roboto_ who was able to walk me through getting a GitHub project started with the patience of a Last Wish sherpa. I entrusted the code to him and finally got some rest. Thursday I found two more senior developers, one for the back-end and one for the front-end, u/yorickdowne and /u/Infynitee. We spent the day improving the site, dockerizing the code, building the API, and adding features. The long road to deployment We could have launched the site on Friday. In hindsight, it would have been very good to have done that. Unforeseen delays (sickness and family matters) and getting stuck in an endless cycle of "one more hour, one more hour, etc. delayed our launch until Saturday at 12:18pm PST. So now we had a quick-and-dirty site up and running with users beginning to fill our database with transcriptions. Hooray! There was little time to celebrate because we still had to add an export CSV feature so other teams could use our data, work out the bugs, test, and finish our API so that we could bring our front end site online. We didn't prioritize merging our front end and back end sites due to time constraints, and as a result, we had two functioning websites by the end of Saturday. We've woken the Hive Sunday morning we began preparations for upscaling our server instance. We opted for the largest AWS instance available to us to be on the "safe" side. The stream team was planning to send their viewers to our site as soon as we notified them that we were ready. At 12:57pm PST we were "ready" for the deluge of users visiting our site, but I don't think we were ready. The initial wave of thousands of visitors slowed down the performance of the website dramatically, with 503 errors occurring for many users. We kept the site online for roughly eight minutes while we began investigating the cause of the performance issues. Despite all the sluggishness, in those first 8 minutes we received over 1, 000 transcriptions. The development team continued working through the day to improve server performance. We had additional developers join the team to help us diagnose and repair the problems. The main source of the problem was in our database queries. We were making queries for 30, 000 things when we only needed 1. Chalk that one up as another lesson learned. Going the distance Once the initial burst of activity died down, submissions started coming in at an average rate of about 2, 500 transcriptions per hour. The server was running very smoothly—we might've been able to handle opening the floodgate again, but we were comfortable with the pace that had settled in. Almost exactly 12 hours after we opened the floodgates, the announcement everyone was waiting for had finally arrived. The path has been completed! A huge number of the final puzzle pieces were credited on-stream as being discovered by the army of transcribers at Corridor Crunch. I'm so proud of everyone I had the pleasure to work with, the thousands of guardians who volunteered to participate in Corridor Crunch, and of the Bungie community in general. Some challenges Timezone differences proved to make progress quite difficult at times. Generally speaking, we had a front end developer in Australia, a back-end team in the US, and an operations team in Europe. Passing the torch between teams/time zones was done by people who were definitely not getting enough sleep. Early decisions that became later regrets. Such is the way it is. Maintaining the reputation of our data, which many have proven to be stunningly accurate. Incorrect data from other projects was frequently mis-credited as Corridor Crunch data, resulting in confusion and distrust. Finding time to sleep! Conclusion This whole ordeal has been such an invaluable experience. I was constantly forced out of my comfort zone and learned so much in doing so. I was a software project manager, a PR specialist, and essentially a chief operations officer—all roles that I've never had any experience in. Turns out you don't have to be an expert at something to make it happen. You can just surround yourself with great people and do the best you can. I can say with certainty that I have renewed respect for the development process. Nothing is ever as simple as it might sound on paper. We achieved both of our primary goals: 1) Give the greater community a convenient way to participate in the transcription process. 2) Provide useful data used in the completion of the puzzle. File Lockers generally offer two or more tiers, free and paid, and using them as a guest generally means severe limitations on how many files you can download over a set period, how big those files are allowed to be, and how fast the locker will send the files to you. The RapidGator locker, for instance, limits downloads to one file every two hours, maximum size of 2GB, and basically dial-up speeds for free users. Paid users OTOH can download files of any size, up to ten at a time, at up to 300mbps. Higher paid tiers increase these limits even higher. Go to the Torrent Management Page and either upload the. torrent file using the "Upload a. torrent file from your computer" field on the left side or paste the copied magnet link into the "or paste your Magnet link here" field on the right side. If you choose to upload a. torrent file you will need to click "Convert" to start the process, but if you are using the magnet link it will start as soon as you click Enter. In either case once the torrent has been added it will appear at the top of the list in the lower part of the torrent management window. If you are lucky and your torrent has been cached by Real-Debrid, you will immediately see the progress of the torrent at 100% and you can proceed to the next step. If the torrent is not cached though, you will have to wait for R-D to complete the torrent and it will show the torrent progress as the file is retrieved to the R-D servers. Note that your torrent size is limited to 2TB, which is not likely to be a problem, and must complete within 72 hours, which might be. Also, you are limited to 25 active (incomplete) torrents at once. Finally, you can remove torrents from your download list when you are done with them, but if you don't they will eventually be purged from the R-D servers and you won't be able to download them even though they are shown as complete in your list, but in my experience this doesn't usually happen for several weeks after the torrent is completed. Once the torrent is shown as complete (100% you can download it directly to your machine or device. From your torrent management page click on the green box at the right side of the torrent in the list and R-D will jump to the Downloader page and then a few seconds later will present a download link in a green box. If the torrent is a streamable file such as video then you will also get a link to stream it rather than download it. The R-D servers are pretty fast and you are downloading directly at this point rather than torrenting so it won't take too long unless your file is huge. To keep things uncluttered it's a good idea to go back to your torrent management page and remove torrents you don't need anymore from the list. Downloading from File Lockers To take advantage of your R-D subscriptions when downloading from a file locker, you use the Downloader page. Let's say you find a link to a file you want with your browser, but when you click on it you wind up at a page asking you to sign in to a locker account or submit to onerous restrictions on download speed. If the locker/hoster is one of the ones included in your R-D subscription it's easy to get the file at full speed. Simply back up and copy the link which took you to the locker's sign-in page. Go back to the R-D Downloader page and paste the link into the "Enter your links here (One link per line. box and click "Unrestrict my links. R-D will sign in to the locker(s) and create new download links for you, similar to when you download you torrent files.
